Question: Why Doesn’t Replying to Notification Emails Work?

I have a question about how the forum notifications work that others might be wondering about too.

I’ve noticed that when you get an email notification about a new post, it comes from a special, unique email address, something like this:

JTech Forums <jtech+re76feef527b4cee5a33d54c7908d9805@jtechforums.org>

On many other platforms (like GitHub, for example), this kind of address means you can just hit “Reply” in your email client, type your message, and it will be automatically added as a reply to the forum post.

I tried doing that here, but it doesn’t seem to post a reply. Does anyone know why this feature might not be work and if it doesn’t work why is there a reply-to email address at all?

I think it might be for posts that you are directly quoted in.

You would see something like the below:

Nah, You pick in Settings what to get Emails for.

when I get an email for a new post in a topic I follow I also get this:

Visit Topic or reply to this email to respond.

but the email doesn’t go through when I try to respond

Because I didn’t set it up. It takes special configuration. Now that I know people want it, I will work on configuring this coming Saturday, when I can take the forum down without causing a lot of problems.

For me it never worked but it definitely worked in the past on the forums. I’ve seen the email icon near posts which means it was posted through email.
