About the Paid Software, ROMs, & Services category

Historical Paid Software, ROMs, & Services category. Its discussions now live in subject categories; this old posting destination is read-only.

Use the relevant subject category for new topics. Questions, troubleshooting, recommendations, news, reviews and releases stay with their subject and use topic-type tags. Member authorship uses the member-made tag.

The category ID and historical links are retained. Follow the current posting map, Community Guidelines and promotion policy. The promotion policy’s grandfathering applies to older threads; no filter-bypass exception is created by this archive.

Organization wording prepared with Codex (GPT-6), using existing forum policies and verified category settings.

You may sell your modified open source apps if the license approves it (e.g. gplv3) provided you publish the source as mandated.

This comes with the awareness that if someone builds an APK from your published source, they are allowed to distribute it freely.

Sounds unfair? That’s the rules (not my rules).

An example would be the Aurora Updater I just made. I’m free to sell it, you are also free to build it from my published source.

If you mix non OS components with OS code, that can be kept private (not directly linked in licensed code).

Turns out I was wrong about some things (soooo surprising, right?)

Minimal requirements to satisfy the GPLv3 license:

  • include a written offer (can be text somewhere in your app) for source code, and include a contact email. Don’t need to publish (however, be aware, anyone may upload the source once they request it.)
  • Source be devoid of any instructions aside from build commands.
