# Sonim XP5 XP5700 (Verizon Model)

I wanted to post some information about this model because there’s not a lot about it out there
This is a older version of the Sonim XP5s (XP5800). It looks identical to the XP5800 but with some visual differences and lots of software and hardware differences. The verizon version was released in July 2017 while the AT&T version was released in May 2015. The one I used is the verizon model. The at&t model has a few differences, mostly service related stuff. This one is called XP5 without a “s”, while the newer has a “s”
**System:**
Runs android 5.1.1. Its able to run android apps, but you can only install apps with adb, I was able to get to developer options and turn on USB debugging and install and use some simple apps, like waze. The settings app is very simple, not a lot to do there. The battery is very good, it does not charge very fast though, and the software is obviously really old at this point
**VoLTE:**
The XP5700 has VoLTE, even though if you look this phone up online, it says that its not a VoLTE phone. I was able to make calls & text normally, even hotspot works. It seems that only the verizon version of the XP5700 is VoLTE, the **at&t** version is the one that’s **not VoLTE** , it relied on 2G & 3G for calls/texts, 4G LTE was for data only. The verizon model works with Verizon only, tried putting in T-Mobile and found no service, with visible it found service but I couldn’t make a single call or text. The verizon version also only has CDMA and 4G LTE frequency bands. The at&t version, **does** have 2G & 3G frequency bands. So nowadays its only possible to use this phone on Verizon’s 4G LTE network in the US. It might work in Canada for roaming too. Since its missing 2G & 3G frequency bands entirely, it won’t work anywhere else in the world
**Stock apps:**
- Has all the apps you need on a phone. Clock, music player, camera, recorder, file explorer, music player, some sonim apps like backup and restore, and a few more
**Differences from the XP5800:**
- This one uses sonim’s magnetic proprietary charger (they don’t use it for almost 10 years already), the newer (XP5800) uses USB-C
- Has a headphone jack (3.5mm)
- Has a flashlight button instead of a speaker button
- Only has 1 SIM card slot, the Xp5800 has 2
- And obviously, much older and different software
**Bad stuff:**
- its using a charger that almost zero other phones use
- it doesn’t have Wi-Fi calling
- Not really a issue for me but you have very limited options for which apps will install and work
- Only has 1GB Built In Storage (but it does have a micro SD slot)
- Uses a bigger SIM card size (3FF), very hard to get it in and out (I used a cutout to make my SIM bigger)
- Messages shows on top of the screen when they come in, like on some Kyocera phones
- There are some software bugs
- Not usable for roaming in other countries
**Good stuff:**
- Battery life is great, lasts very long
- its possible to move user installed (only) apps to the SD card memory (this was possible on all phones running android until android 6)
- Has a flashlight button
- Has one of the **best** T9/Typing I have ever seen on a T9 keyboard phone
- I like how the messaging app looks, old and simple like old android
If you have verizon and want a very simple bar phone with good T9, this is a good option
