Consider that there are libraries that already do all of the heavy lifting for you; ported to all major languages - from KosherJava.
Definitely—relying on the local libraries makes way more sense.

I went with the tiq cause service really didn’t work well with me…. I didn’t have connection in my basement. And WiFi calling/texting wasn’t reliable.

I made a backup of all my sms and mms excluding attachments. Now I want just the attachments. Is there a folder where all pictures that were received through text automatically go even if I didn’t save to gallery?

If I’m correct in my assumption that you would like to extract all your attachments from an SMS db backup, then restore your current backup, and make a new one using the SMS-IE app (I uploaded a mod somewhere on the forums). It will make a zip folder that contains all the attachments, you can delete the rest of the data. You may have to write a script to look at the first few bytes of each file and add the extension (png, 3gp, etc) back. Don’t remember if the backup utility strips them. I’m sure @claude or @gemini will be happy to assist if you ask nicely.

Its not, you need to use Vertex not Google AI and you need to ask Google Cloud to sign a BAA and you may need to be on Enterprise
Option A — Google Workspace for Education (most common)
FERPA compliance is included automatically when you accept the Google Workspace Data Processing Addendum in the Admin Console.
Option B — Google Cloud (Vertex AI) with a Cloud DPA
If you want to use Gemini models programmatically with FERPA compliance:
- Create a Google Cloud project
- Enable Vertex AI
- Accept the Google Cloud Data Processing Addendum
- Use Gemini via Vertex AI (not AI Studio)
This is the only way to use Gemini APIs with FERPA‑aligned contractual protections.
