ventoy has its own persistence system that allows for full persistence or you can format the usb to be 2 separate volumes ( i think) ---

alternatively, if you have a second usb available just make a temp live usb on it than run the distro installer and select youre main usb when prompted “where would you like to install?” and the main usb will have full persistence, its a lot more straight forward ---
