Thank you @aron for being my tester! Couldn’t have done it without you.

# The Issue

Users have reported that flashing any old ROM on these new Qins break speaker functionality.

# PSA

If you flashed 1.1.1 with spflashtool, you must follow all flashing instructions, as you overwrote the **boot** and **dtbo** partitions.

If you only flashed a super (not **boot** or **dtbo** ), and then your speaker broke, you should be able to just flash a working super.

# The Fix

The speaker requires three components to work:

1. Kernel — Contains the driver that knows how to communicate with the speaker hardware. Lives in the boot partition.

2. DTBO — Tells the kernel what speaker hardware exists and how it’s configured (addresses, pins, etc.). Lives in the dtbo partition.

3. Vendor firmware — The actual code that runs on the speaker’s own chip. The kernel loads this from /vendor/firmware/ and sends it to the speaker at boot.

All three new components are backward compatible with the old hardware.

# Download

[speaker-fix.zip](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lkTuDhuZKN12r91cGk6Zi0ihYzl1_qUo/view?usp=drivesdk)

_zip includes **boot** , **dtbo** , and **3 firmware files** _

# Fix a ROM

**Fix an existing ROM:**

1. Unpack the ROM with your favorite tool(s).

2. Place the three firmware files in `/vendor/firmware`

3. Build the super (if you are using crb, rebuild the vendor partition first).

# Flash boot & dtbo

I don’t have this phone, so I can only tell you what was tested on 2 phones. Other flashing methods may work.

There is more than one way to flash the required partitions, fully fastboot was not tested, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Also, **dtbo\_b** might not be necessary, but I included it anyway.

**What was tested**

1. Flash **boot** with fastboot. Flash **dtbo\_a** and **dtbo\_b** with mtkclient.

2. Flash **boot** , **dtbo\_a** and **dtbo\_b** with mtkclient.

# Flash super

**This is what I told him to do:**
_The “erase super” probably doesn’t matter, it’s just what I do._

```auto
adb reboot bootloader
# when he flashed boot via fastboot
fastboot flash boot boot_a.bin
fastboot -w
fastboot erase super
fastboot flash super name-of-super.bin
fastboot reboot
```

# Working ROMs (super)

If you patch a ROM, please share it with the community.

**[f21-pro-33.2.1](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-eMRwMdem9Wv5CSk6uAK89WaqjeL0OBz/view?usp=drivesdk)**

_I don’t recommend using this one. Weird issues and restrictions._

**[1.1.1 NO GOOGLE](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1k6vq-m5ptPleXqy98IKy72zFQZ2MvdNH/view?usp=drivesdk)**

I recommend you patch your own ROM, or wait for someone else to do so. I might do some myself.

I don’t care that I didn’t have the phone to test… This is moronic 🤣

Just flash those partitions with whatever method you choose.

And there’s no real need for both slots…
