SignalWire advertises 0.00415/message + carrier fees, and a phone number is only 0.50/month. They’re also very developer friendly.

Carrier fees is part of what you’ll pay, so final price is what’s to be considered as the sms price.

They also have the cheapest carrier fees I’ve noticed anywhere ~0.003-0.004/SMS
They don’t have cheaper carrier fees than anyone else because carrier fees are set by the… [Drumroll] Carriers!
But they seem like the cheapest besides for textgrid

I’ve used them before, not for SMS, but they have a nice interface and lots of docs.

Do they give you free unlimited inbound like textgrid?
No. But in a group chat, outbound can easily be 60X inbound.

Fair enough, my use case has an average Ratio of 2.33 outbound : 1 inbound.
Also, I think any platform listing cheaper carrier fees are likely outdated

If TAG is coming out with a GroupMe alternative and will be free(paid by donations etc) does it make sense I should continue my project??
I would say, it depends on what their end product looks like. If its junk, then people may want to pay for a reliable alternative. If it is good, then your out of business. (Simple logic, no?)

You should wait and see, I think chances that TAG is going to sponsor unlimited group messaging for anyone and everyone is null, except if it’s app based, in the case it’s two completely different products

It HAS to be app (data) based. SMS is not financially viable. The only question is if they provide an SMS gateway for chats to be mixed some users on data and some on SMS (like GroupMe was). If so, they would only have to figure out a real financial model for the SMS side, as the data side would be pennies in comparison.

Big misconception, inbound is not free, its just free of the base rate. you will still pay carrier fees on inbound (Besides for verizon)

If you survive textgrid to the point where you can actually send and receive messages without issues you should consider yourself very lucky.

How exactly? If there is 20 people in a group then each message goes to 20 people so its 20 cents
and if there is 1000 people then it will cost you 10 dollars per message
