Anyone with app building expertise interested in working on a d-pad client for Matrix? I think we’ll need to have something usable before we have adoption.
I have a test server setup, I really like the UX of Matrix. Years ago, it may have been complex but its a fairly polished setup at this point.
And Matrix also has the possibility for bridging to SMS.

It would be really interesting to know how GroupMe avoided being blocked as spam.

Just to say - every time I got a message from GroupMe it asked me if it was spam because they suspected it was spam

I think the chances of RCS implementation is far higher than the chances of getting all the kosher phone companies to allow essentially an IM app on their phone. Only question is when Google will stop gatekeeping RCS and/or if its possible for the android based devices like Wonder, Fig, Mind to exploit carrier services into their own messaging apps to allow RCS registration on Jibe

Why isn’t widespread adoption of RCS the simpler route over creating a custom Matrix server and client that you would need everyone to agree on?

If the only thing that’s needed is GMS (Which I dont know much about) and is something that the phone companies can get/have. Why isnt that an easier option?

If the only thing that’s needed is GMS

1. Because certified GMS is needed.
   That’s not simple, it’s expensive, and has requirements that make it basically impossible for most kosher phones to pass.
2. Because only even on certified devices, only Google Messages can have RCS. Most kosher phones don’t want that.

Google basically manipulated phone companies into handing control over RCS over to them, and RCS is basically Google’s iMessage.
