Software and Tools: Use, releases and support for desktop/cross-platform software.

## Scope and posting rules

Use, releases and support for desktop/cross-platform software; development problems use Development; member authorship becomes a tag.

Use this subject home for questions, troubleshooting, recommendations, discussions, news, reviews and releases. Choose one primary topic-type tag and useful model, platform or product tags. Member-made projects belong in their subject home with a member-made tag.

Keep one primary subject per topic. Support requests need the exact product/model, version, expected behavior, observed problem and attempted fixes. Releases need their version, legitimate source, supported targets and known limitations. A model-family category does not imply firmware compatibility.

Coding or implementation problems belong in [Programming and Development](https://jtechforums.org/t/5724); reviewed publications belong in [Guides](https://jtechforums.org/t/3333). Carrier/SIM issues belong in [Cellular Service](https://jtechforums.org/t/6579). Prefer the dedicated product/device home when that is the main subject.

## Examples

- Using a desktop utility.
- A finished cross-platform application release.

## Community rules

Follow the [Community Guidelines](https://jtechforums.org/t/5), [promotion policy](https://jtechforums.org/t/7755), [English-language requirement](https://jtechforums.org/t/7085). Topic tags describe subject and format; they do not grant access or certify approval. Existing category approval rules still apply.

## Posting workflow

New topics require exactly one existing tag from **Topic Types**. Add only relevant subject/model tags, within the five-tag limit. New topics follow general moderation without category-specific pre-publication review. Replies follow general moderation without category-specific pre-publication review.

_Organization wording prepared with Codex (GPT-6), using the existing forum rules and verified category settings._
